What counts as engagement on TikTok
Likes (the heart), comments, shares (the arrow) and saves (the bookmark). All four sit next to each video; views are on your profile.
Type the views, likes and comments on your videos. You'll see their engagement rate with the formula in plain sight, and whether the latest is above or below what's normal for your account.

How it works
Both start from the same interactions. One divides them by views and the other by followers, so they can give very different numbers.
A reel with 4,000 views, 120 likes, 14 comments, 9 shares and 31 saves, on an account with 2,500 followers.
120 + 14 + 9 + 31 = 174 interactions
Made-up numbers, just to show the sum.
Likes (the heart), comments, shares (the arrow) and saves (the bookmark). All four sit next to each video; views are on your profile.
Likes and comments show on the reel. Views, shares and saves only you can see, under «View insights». Leave them out and the rate comes out lower: always add up the same things to compare.
On TikTok and Reels, views come mostly from people who don't follow you. Divide by followers and a video that travels far pushes the rate way up, while one only your followers see drags it down.
For posts mostly your followers see, like a photo or a carousel, or to see how much your account responds overall. Don't compare one account's rate by followers with another's rate by views.
A general average lumps accounts of a hundred followers in with accounts of a million, and every source counts interactions its own way. Your normal engagement comes from your own videos, always counted the same way, so it tells you whether the latest did better or worse for you. That's why there's no «good rate» number here.
The median rate by views across your videos: sort them from lowest to highest and keep the middle one, so one odd video can't move it. It needs at least 3, the same rule Hop uses for your normal video.
